ABSTRACT |
People who are afflicted with snoring and sleep apnea have been commonly associated with obesity, have been considered a nuisance as far as social life is concerned and people with these tendencies also are often excessively worried about their health. But, even with these observations the diagnosis and the treatment of the disease have not been well established. From July 1992 to June 1995, we performed cephalometry in 50 cases of sleep disorders and 20 cases of normal subjects. The purpose of this study was to provide a guide for the operative treatment of the patient who was diagnosed as having snoring and sleep apnea syndrome by cephalometry. The following results were obtained ; The cranial base, length of the maxilla, length of the mandible were significantly shorter in the apnea group than control group and, the lowering of hyoid bone and soft palate, a more reduced upper airway were found in apnea group.
