ABSTRACT

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma(ACC) usually presented as a tumor of major and minor salivary glands. The tumor less frequently, arising in the breast, bronchi, lacrimal glands, cervix, prostate, skin, and external auditory canal has been reported. ACC primary originating in the external auditory canal may apparently arise from ceruminous glands or possibly form eccrine sweat glands, and is very rare. The clinical symptoms of ACC of external auditory canal are persistant otalgia, the presence of a mass, hearing loss, and facial paralysis. The tumor is characterized by very slow growth, high incidence of local recurrence after surgical removal, distant metastasis, and a poor prognosis. Recently, we experienced a case of ACC of external auditory canal, 35 year-old man, verified histopathologically. We managed the patient with surgical operation combined with postoperative irradiation, so report it with the review of literatures.
