ABSTRACT

In oral tongue cancers, frequent regional metastasis and relatively high rate of local or locoregional failur were well known. So, we reviewed the results of treatment of oral tongue cancers and tried to obtain the best optimal therapeutic modalities. Following results were obtained through the retrospective study of 90 cases of oral tongue cancers. Five year survival rate of early stage cancers were 78.7% and 20.7% in advanced cases. Primary lesion was the most common site of treatment failure. In conclusion, we recommend more aggressive surgical therapy of primary and metastatic neck lesion along with postoperative radiotherapy for oral tongue cancers of early and advanced cases due to the unsatisfactory results of radiotherapy alone.
