ABSTRACT

The parapharyngeal space is a potential anatomical space with three rigid wall. Tumors in this space extend medial and inferior direction which accounts for clinical manifestations. The correct surgical approach depends upon the careful preoperative differentiation of parotid tumors from extraparotid parapharyngeal tumors. Carotid argiography combind with CT scan provide crucial information for the adequate surgical approaches. A retrospective study of six patients with parapharyngeal tumors(four neurilemmomas, one mixed tumor, one lymphangioma) is presented. Complete surgical removal was accomplished through four different surgical approaches.
