We have observed foreign bodies in food and air passage in 92 cases during the period of last 5 years from Jan. 1979 to Dec. 1983 in otolaryngologic department of Chosun University Hospital. The following results were obtained. 1) Distribution of location was 85 cases(92.4%) in food passage and 9 cases(7.6%) in air passage. 2) Most common foreign body in food passage was coin(64 cases, 75.3%) and next were bony pieces(11 cases ; 12.9%). Pastic materials and beans were common in air passage. 3) In sex distribution, the male was prevalent than the female in both cases of food and air passage. Food passage(M : F=49 cases : 36 cases). Air passage(M : F=7 cases : 2 cases). 4) In the age distribution, 76.5% of foreign bodies in food passage was under 5 years old and 88.9% of foreign bodies in air passage was under 10 years old. 5) The most prevalent site of lodgement in the food passage was first esophageal narrowing(92.9%). In the air passage, bronchial foreign bodies were more common and the right bronchus was the more frequent site (2 : 1). 6) In duration of lodgement, 80% of foreign bodies in food passage and 66.7% of foreign bodies in air passage were removed within 24 hours.
