ABSTRACT

Mucoceles are chronic, expansile cyst-like lesions of the pananasal sinuses. They contain sterile mucoid secretion and are limited by the mucosa of the affected cavity. Most of the moucoceles are found in the frontal sinus and/or anterior ethmoidal sinus. The establishment of a correct diagnosis is frequently belated. A radiological examination of the sinuses as well as precise history taking and physical examination are essential. Recently C-T scan has been used in otolaryngologic field. The most important single feature of C-T is the capability of imaging of soft tissue. C-T demonstration of bone destruction is not supperior to polytomography. 8 cases of the frontoethmoid mucoceles are presented and the diagnosis and treatment are discussed. Radiologic evaluation of the lesion is stressed with the emphasis on the value of the computerized tomogram.
