ABSTRACT

Plasma cell granuloma is another rare cause of a large solitary nodule, especially in younger person. The alternative name, inflammatory pseudotumor, hints at the possible etiology. Pseudotumors are contained histiocytoma, sclerosing hemangioma, plasma cell granuloma and pseudolymphoma. They may obstruct the bronchi or trachea when they involve the respiratory tract. When hard, they have a streaky gray-white cut surface. Softer forms are yellow. Plasma cell granuloma is an infectious process with a massive immunologic component. Recently we experienced a case of inflammatory pseudotumor which occurred in the larynx in a 19 year-old female. She has been in tracheostomy state for 4 years, following previous surgery for the laryngeal mass performed at other hospital. Excision of the mass through external thyrotomy approach with intralaryngeal stent was done.
