ABSTRACT

Benign tumors of the pharynx are rare, but among these, neurofibroma of nerve sheath origin appears to be more common in the head and neck area, in about 25%. They may occur at any age and have shown no sex and location preponderance, but have not showen metastasis and are very radioresistant. We have recently experienced a case of neurilemmoma of the pharynx in a 41-year-old male who had noticed a gradual swelling of the left aspect of the pharynx with a foreign body sensation for 6 months. The complete removal of the tumor was done intraorally under the general endotracheal anesthesia. His postoperative condition had been uneventful, and the tumor was verified histopathologically as neurilemmoma of the pharynx.
