ABSTRACT

Authors observed 6 cases of syphilitic patient in E.N.T. field. 5 cases of them were affected secondary syphilitic lesion on tongue, palatine, isthmus, anterior & posterior pillar of tonsil and lips. Irregular hypertrophy of the margin of the vocal cord with grayish mucous patch and hoarseness and hyperemia of nasal mucous membrane with grayish mucous patch and mandibular lymph node swelling without pain which might be identical with bubo indolenta of inguinal lymphnode. One of them was congenital syphilis who was affected syphilitic lesions of E.N.T. and ophthalmological field such as irregular hypertrophy of vocal cord with hoarseness and parenchymal interstitial keratitis. Authors also called atttention to E.N.T. clinicians that recently syphilitic patient had been increasing in E.N.T. clinic. Therefore, if there are chronic ulceration or mucous patch on oral cavity, tongue, tonsil, pharynx, larynx, vocal cord and nasal cavity, one should consider syphilitic lesion. We discussed treatment of syphilis and reported our experience of treatment which we found that penicillin was most effective drug and administration of penicillin followed by U.S. Public health service method which was good result.
