ABSTRACT

When trumatic fractures of the temporal bone cross the geniculate ganglion or facial nerve, accurate diagnosis and adequate therapeutic planning are essential to obtain the optimal therapeutic result. Recently, we have successfully managed a patient with bilateral facial nerve paralysis combined with traumatic-bilateral temporal bone fractures. Total facial nerve decompressions were performed via transmastoid and middle cranial fossa approach in order. The facial expressions were recovered remarkably nine months after surgery.
